HOW DOES PSYCHOANALYSIS WORK?

Psychoanalysis, differently from other types of mental health approaches, takes time and goes against the grain of 'quick-fixes' or 'one-size-fits-all' approaches. Rather, this is a clinical practice focused on singularity and interested in weaving new ways of living and seeing things in life that may have caused psychological or bodily distress.

A psychoanalytic approach goes beyond surface-level symptomatic presentations and unpacks the logic, reasons for and function of some symptoms.

How long does it last?

With this in mind, I offer  both short and long-term treatment. We will decide on a weekly, twice-weekly, or more, fixed time for sessions. Sessions can vary slightly in time, but usually last for about 40-45  minutes.

There is no set script or forms to fill out.

This will be your time.

How much does it cost?

Fees are negotiable according to your circumstances.

I strive to offer affordable fees at a reduced cost to those who need so, practicing in the tradition of community clinics within psychoanalysis.

In our first session, we will agree to a price, generally between £45-£80 per session.

Cancellations are due in full, but we can always try to reschedule a missed session should something come up, with reasonable flexibility.

How can I start?

If you would like to start a psychoanalytic treatment, we can first schedule an initial video or phone call to discuss whether this is the right approach for you.

In case we find that another analyst would be a better fit, I am able to refer you to a competent colleague.

Who do you work with?

I welcome adults for individual psychoanalytic work only.

I can offer sessions in English and in Portuguese.

Sessões disponíveis em Inglês e Português.
